Baseball: MLB pushing for Japan, China games in 2008

Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, said today that the sport is working with government officials, sponsors and big league clubs.
"We have a schedule and people have to start selling tickets and we've got to make the arrangements so I would certainly think before Labor Day we'd know what we're doing one way or the other," he said.
Dupuy was on hand as the Yankees and Major League Baseball unveiled the logo for the 2008 All-Star game at Yankee Stadium. It's the first time the game has been held in a ballpark during the final year it will be open.
Yankee Stadium also hosted All-Star games in 1939, 1960 and 1977, and New York has been the home for seven of them, with 1934 and 1942 at the Polo Grounds, 1949 at Ebbets Field and 1964 at Shea Stadium.
"Hopefully, there will be a few Yankees able to represent us here," said captain Derek Jeter, an eight-time All-Star.
The round emblem, complete with pinstripes reminiscent of the Bronx Bombers' uniforms, is on display above the left-field scoreboard.
Both the Mets and the Yankees open new stadiums in 2009, and Dupuy was optimistic about an All-Star game coming to Citi Field soon.
"It's been 30 years since either team has hosted a game in New York and so I think it's clearly likely that Citi will host a game in the not too distant future," he said. "But we don't have a year in mind."
