WWII ending ceremony Sept. 2 on USS Missouri

Advertiser Staff

The end of World War II will be remembered Sept. 2 on the decks of USS Missouri, the same battleship that hosted the Japanese surrender signing nearly 62 years ago.

Adm. Timothy J. Keating, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony, which is free and open to the public.

It will start at 8:45 a.m. at the Battleship Missouri Memorial, which is berthed at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor.

For those who want to attend but do not have Department of Defense vehicle access to Ford Island, free shuttle service to the Battleship Missouri Memorial will be available between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m. at the Missouri's shuttle boarding station near the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park. The shuttle will also provide return transportation following the ceremony.
