H-1 viaduct project to repair potholes starts tonight

Advertiser Staff

The two-year, $9.1-million project to repair potholes on the H-1 Freeway airport viaduct begins tonight.

The state Department of Transportation's project focuses on a nearly three-mile stretch of the viaduct between Valkenburgh and Middle streets and will be done mostly overnight, 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., weekdays.

Work may also be done on Sundays during the day with initial monitoring of its effect on traffic.

With school also back in session this week, it should be noted for morning commuters that some lanes will close temporarily in some areas and in other areas speed will be reduced to 15 mph.

Drivers are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for longer travel time. The work is weather-permitting to allow the concrete to cure.
