Advertiser Staff

The Bank of Hawaii Charitable Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to support Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike's Hana School Building Program.

The Wailuku-based Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike began in the fall of 2000 to meet the needs of at-risk students and provide them with skills and tools of the working environment of construction trades.

Now in its seventh year, student builders have built more than 12 on-campus structures including a substance-abuse counseling center, and remodeled or rebuilt more than nine kupuna cottages and retrofits.
