Novelist, NPR contributor Alan Cheuse speaks Aug. 16

Novelist and National Public Radio book reviewer Alan Cheuse will be in Honolulu this month to speak about writing and lead a workshop.

Cheuse will present "Pacific Overtures: Images of Hawai'i and the South Pacific in American Fiction," a free talk at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 in the Yukiyoshi Room of Krauss Hall 012 on the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus. Call 956-8246 for more information.

The author also will lead a workshop on writing dramatic scenes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 and 18 in the university's Webster 103. The cost of the workshop is $225. Call 956-8400 to register.

Cheuse is the author of three novels, three collections of short stories, a memoir and a collection of essays. As a book commentator, Cheuse is a regular contributor to National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."
