New recycling redemption rate takes effect today

Advertiser Staff

Effective today, a new redemption rate for small plastic beverage containers weighing 17 ounces or less is being offered at all HI-5 bottle redemption centers across the state.

To qualify for the new rate of $1.13-1/2 cents per pound, consumers are required to separate their small bottles from larger plastic bottles.

The mixed plastic bottle rate of 87-1/2 cents per pound will be paid for loads that are not separated.

Redemption rates for aluminum and glass beverage containers remain the same. Consumers receive $1.58 per pound for aluminum containers and 11-1/2 cents a pound for glass containers.

While weighing is quick and convenient, consumers also have the option of requesting that their empty beverage containers be hand-counted.
