A 29-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison this afternoon for robbery and a firearms violation in connection with the shooting murder of an Army helicopter pilot at the Wai'anae Army Recreation Center nearly nine years ago.

Bryson Jose was sentenced to the 25-year term, which was part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

U. S. District Judge Helen Gillmor imposed the sentence.

Jose will get credit for the time he served in bars since the shooting, leaving him with about 16 years left to serve in prison.

Last week, Jose's co-defendant Roberto Miguel also was sentenced to a 25-year federal prison term for his guilty pleas to murdering John Latchum Jr. The helicopter pilot was with his wife and two children vacationing at the recreation center when he was shot the night of June 3, 1998.

Miguel was 17 at the time of the shooting.

Miguel's sentence was also the result of a plea agreement.

Gillmor also ordered Jose and Miguel to pay the Latchum family $979,699 in restitution.
