Interior secretary to address Battle of Midway event

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Secretary of the Interior will be the keynote speaker Monday at an event to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Battle of Midway.

About 1,800 people are expected to make a one-day visit to Midway Atoll to attend the ceremony at the Battle of Midway National Memorial.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour some of the same structures present during the 1942 battle, which is often cited as the turning point of World War II in the Pacific.

The atoll, part of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, is home to the largest nesting colony of Laysan and black-footed albatrosses in the world.
