Neighborhood board members to be sworn in today

Nearly 400 members of O'ahu's neighborhood boards will begin their two-year term of office today with training sessions and an installation ceremony at the Mission Memorial Auditorium.
In the recently completed elections, which featured online voting for the first time, voters chose 380 people to serve on O'ahu's 32 neighborhood boards.
The schedule for board members-elect is as follows:
i8 a.m. – Orientation (Mission Memorial Auditorium).
i9:30 a.m. – Sunshine Law training (Mission Memorial Auditorium).
i11 a.m. – Swearing-in ceremony (Mission Memorial Auditorium). Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Neighborhood Commission Executive Secretary Joan Manke and City Council Chairwoman Barbara Marshall will speak. Neighborhood Commission Chairman Grant Tanimoto will administer the oath of office.
iNoon to 1 p.m. – Reception (Honolulu Hale courtyard).
Honolulu's neighborhood board system was established in 1973 to increase citizen participation in government. The boards serve as advisory sounding boards for City, state and federal government. The nine-member Neighborhood Commission oversees the boards.
