Big Island infant, run over by truck, dies

Police identified the child as Kahea Smith.
The infant was run over by a 2000 Ford Expedition multipurpose vehicle driven by his father, 28. The accident was reported at 6:33 p.m., and the boy was pronounced dead at Hilo Medical Center at 7:20 p.m.
The death is the Big Island's fifth nontraffic incident in 2007 and the third involving a young child. Nontraffic deaths do not count toward the official traffic fatality count because they occurred on private property.
