12 top high school athletes to be inducted tonight

What: 12 athletes will be enshrined into The Honolulu Advertiser (formerly Nissan) Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor.

When: Today, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Sheraton-Waikïkï Hotel.

Speaker: Roy Williams, North Carolina basketball coach.

The first inductees from Christian Academy and Kamehameha-Hawai‘i highlight the 25th class of The Honolulu Advertiser’s Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor.

Ashley Medcalf , a standout soccer, basketball and volleyball player for tiny Christian Academy, and Reece Alnas, a four-sport athlete for the Big Island Warriors, will be among 12 honored tonight for their induction.

The other honorees are:

  • Jazzmin Awa-Williams, Konawaena (basketball, softball);
  • Brandon Hardin, Kamehameha (football, track);
  • Keisha Kanekoa, Honoka'a (basketball, softball, cross country);
  • June Ann Lusk, Baldwin (softball, cross country, track and field);
  • Spencer McLachlin, Punahou (volleyball, basketball);
  • Hoku Nohara, Kamehameha (softball, wrestling, judo);
  • Miah Ostrowski, Punahou (football, basketball);
  • Keone Reyes, Kaimuki (football, basketball);
  • Scott Smith, Saint Louis (football, basketball).
  • Richard Torres, Kahuku (football, wrestling, judo);

    Each inductee will receive a $2,000 college scholarship. Proceeds from the dinner will go toward the HHSAA Foundation, which helps supplement the costs of 29 state championship events.

    The Honolulu Advertiser will be a title sponsor of the Hall for the first time. It was formerly known as the Nissan Hawai'i High School Hall of Honor.

    This year's class will bring the total number of inductees to 300, representing 52 high schools since 1983.
