If the kids are out the door and you have a national park road trip in mind, here is one of the best deals around. The Senior Pass (which replaced the Golden Age Passport in January) is for citizens and permanent U.S. residents 62 or older. It provides access to all federal recreation sites that charge an entrance fee for the pass holder and occupants of a single private vehicle OR for the pass holder and three people (16 and older) where per-person fees are charged. Not covered are camping, tours, special recreations facilities or activities (the pass may provide a 50 percent on some of those fees. Bottom line: Read the small print and check with destination park.

The Senior Pass is $10 and valid for the holder's lifetime. Get your pass in person from any national park visitor center or office. Questions answered at www.store.usgs.gov/pass/senior.html.
