Photos of nisei go on view at Japanese Cultural Center

Honolulu photographer Brian Y. Sato began taking pictures of the Nisei, or second generation of Japanese Americans in Hawai'i. His black-and-white images of this slowly disappearing generation — they are in their 80s or older— will go on view at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i in "Gokurōsama: Contemporary Photographs of the Nisei in Hawai'i," opening June 16 at 4 p.m. Tour with photographer on Saturday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. Cost for grand opening and tour: Free.

Open until August 3. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesdays–Saturdays. Admission: Free for JCCH members; $3 for Hawai'i residents; $5 for nonresidents. For more information, call 945-7633 or e-mail info@jcch.com.
