Residents can preview west Maui road plan

Advertiser Staff

Residents on Maui who want to comment on the realignment and widening of Honoapi'ilani Highway, the main traffic artery in west Maui, can attend a public meeting Thursday evening at Lahaina Intermediate School.

The state Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are in the scoping process for the road work from Ma'alaea to Launiupoko.

The project could increase roadway capacity, repair shoreline erosion and help guide land-use and preservation policies.

Residents can comment on an environmental impact statement preparation notice at the meeting or before the close of the comment period on June 22. Residents can also get involved in a project task force.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria.
