A man who allegedly impersonated a police officer, pulled a woman over, then tried to steal her car is wanted by authorities, police said.

On May 23 at about 7:45 p.m., a woman was driving on Pi'ikoi Street when she was pulled over by a man claiming to be a Honolulu police officer.

The suspect had a rotating blue light on the dashboard of his car and used a loud-speaker to order the woman to stop, police said. The man told the woman that she was being pulled over for a defective tail light and ordered her out of her car.

The woman, who was talking on her cell phone, refused to get out of her car and the suspect tried to grab the phone from her. The woman began screaming for help, and two men scared the suspect away.

The man got back into his car and drove off, police said.
