Honolulu tennis pro Lam falls in second round in Calif.

Honolulu's Chris Lam upset the top seed in a pair of tiebreakers, but fell in the second round of the $50,000 Sunset Moulding Challenger on Sunday in Yuba City, Calif.

Lam, who played on UCLA's 2005 NCAA Championship team, beat top-seeded Todd Widom in the opening round, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7). The match lasted 2 1/2 hours in 90-plus-degree heat. Widom is ranked 332nd in the world. Ninety minutes later, Lam was beaten by Phillip King, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0.

Lam's next event is the $15,000 Recoating West Futures in Loomis, Calif. Qualifying begins Saturday.
