No-fuss summer parties

Advertiser Staff

Tips for simplifying your summer parties, from Real Simple magazine:

  • For barbecues, put out ant traps around the dining area the day before, to disrupt the flow. Plan to cook just a few foods and do some make-ahead dishes, so you don't spend the entire time over the grill.

  • For brunch, set out a basket of cheap sunglasses for those who've forgotten theirs.

  • For an outdoor dinner party: A do-it-yourself ice cream sandwich polishes off the meal; set out flavors of ice cream and fresh cookies.

One mom is seeking travel tips: "Our family will be going to Las Vegas in early July for my sister's wedding. I have a son who's almost 7 and a 4 1/2-year-old daughter. ... Was wondering what kinds of activities besides the arcades at Circus Circus and New York-New York are available to keep the kids busy for five days." — Sunny, in the Kid-Friendly Services forum.

    FINAL WORD

"What's happened this year is that this issue that we've been talking about for 17 years has finally made it to people's consciousness."
