Libraries offer 'Get a Clue' summer reading program

By Tiffany Hill
Advertiser Staff Writer

The Hawai'i public library system's annual five-week children's summer reading program is now under way.

Children entering preschool to grade 6 are eligible to take part in the free program. Adults may read aloud to children preschool to grade 2.

Participants are encouraged to regularly visit a library and read at least one book each week. In doing so, participants will receive a free "reading incentive" while supplies last.

In addition, five participants will be selected to win a $50 bookstore gift card. One winner will be chosen from East O'ahu, West O'ahu, the Big Island, Maui County and Kaua'i.

"Get a Clue," the theme for this year's program, highlights mystery and suspense books and stories.

The summer reading program is funded by a grant from the Friends of the Library of Hawaii and the National Football League charities.

Visit any public library to register for the program. Throughout the summer, libraries will also feature various performers and other programs.
