HFD resumes investigation of Waiau Center fire

By Alyssa S. Navares
Advertiser Staff Writer

The Honolulu Fire Department this afternoon resumed its investigation of the cause of a fire that last Tuesday damaged two businesses at the Waiau Center in Pearl City.

The investigation was put on hold because 11 cylinders of carbon monoxide at the site had to be emptied. The state Department of Health this afternoon finished venting the cylinders. No explosion occurred during the two-day process.

Businesses and nearby homeowners were evacuated yesterday and today because of the possibility of an explosion.

Firefighters extinguished an early-morning blaze at the center that damaged Ocean Fresh Seafood and the Hawaiian Chef.
