One of two Kalihi men struck by a car in Mapunapuna late last night while running up Moanalua Freeway died today at The Queen's Medical Center.

The man, 23, is O'ahu's 34th traffic fatality of the year. Pedestrians have accounted for 12 of the 2007 total.

A second man, 20, remains in Queen's Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.

Police traffic investigation Sgt. Alan Vegas said the men ran from a vehicle stopped on Moanalua Freeway where an argument was occurring at about 11:30 p.m.

There were three men in the car, police said. The rear-seat passenger ran out of the car and was being chased the front-seat passenger.

The men were running north on the freeway's eastbound lanes when they were struck by a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 66-year-old Pearl City man, said Vegas.

The collision occurred 233 feet west of the Ahua Street overpass.
