POLICE BEAT
Neighbors chase man in burglary incident

Advertiser Staff

A burglary suspect arrested last night after neighbors saw him break in to the residence of a Kapahulu woman was released today pending further investigation.

The neighbors told police they saw the man go into the woman's home and come back out a few minutes later with several items in his hands.

The suspect, 47, attempted to run away but was caught by the neighbors fronting 3145 Castle Street at 9:51 p.m., police said.

Police said that during the chase, the suspect discarded several items that appeared to have been stolen from the house. Those items were recovered and will be used as evidence in the case, police said. They said no one was home at the time of the alleged burglary.

Man arrested in tie to car break-in in Waikiki

A man with no local address was arrested in Waikiki early this morning in connection with a car break-in reported last week at a building on Kuhio Avenue.

Police said a surveillance camera recorded images of a man breaking into a car about 6:30 a.m. May 29. The suspect fled before officers arrived, police said.

At about 12:50 this morning the owner of the car that had been broken into spotted the suspect in the building parking lot, police said. Officers were sent to the site and arrested the man on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

During a search incidental to the man's arrest police reported finding seven counterfeit $100 bills, drugs and a glass pipe in the man's pants pockets.

At that point he was also arrested on suspicion of promotion of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree forgery.
