Gov. Linda Lingle and Shigeo Iwatani, the consul general of Japan in Honolulu, will meet this afternoon in advance of the governor's trip to Japan to tout Hawai'i business and tourism.

Lingle leaves Saturday for a 12-day trip through Asia, with stops in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan.

Lingle will meet with business and government officials in Tokyo as well as sailors stationed at Yokosuka Naval Base south of the city. The governor will also talk about the sister-state relationship between Hawai'i and Okinawa, attend a seminar on innovation, and meet with soldiers stationed in Okinawa.

The governor's meeting this afternoon with Iwatani is at 1:30 p.m. at the state Capitol.
