Wie and Kim set to tee off in LPGA Championship

Advertiser Staff

Two Hawai'i golfers -- Michelle Wie and Kimberly Kim -- will be competing in tomorrow's LPGA Championship at Havre de Grace, Md.

The tournament is the second major on the LPGA Tour.

Wie and Kim will tee off on the 10th tee tomorrow and the first tee on Friday.

Wie, 17, who withdrew in the first round of last week's Ginn Tribute citing "issues" with her injured wrists, will tee off 8:16 a.m., Hawai'i time, and Kim, 15, will begin at 1:26 a.m.

On Friday, Wie will tee off at 2:10 a.m. and Kim at 7:32 a.m.

Kim grew up on the Big Island and moved to Arizona last year.

She earned her way into the LPGA's second major by becoming the youngest U.S. Women's Amateur champion in history last year. She was also the youngest ever to make the U.S. Women's Open cut in 2006 and is coming off victories in the prestigious ReBath Heather Farr Classic and Thunderbird International Junior.

Kim will return to the U.S. Women's Open later this month by virtue of her U.S. Amateur title.

Wie also qualified for the LPGA Championship as well as the U.S. Women's Open. Last year, Wie finished in a tie for fifth at the LPGA and a tie for third in the U.S. Open.
