Bishop anthropologist wins Asian studies award

Tianlong Jiao, chairman of anthropology at Bishop Museum, won the 2007 Philip and Eugenia Cho Award for outstanding scholarship in Asian studies by the Cambria Press of Youngstown, N.Y.

He is the first recipient of the award, which recognizes his new book published by Cambria Press, "The Neolithic of Southeast China: Cultural Transformation and Regional Interaction on the Coast."

Jiao recently curated Bishop Museum's presentation of "Lost Maritime Cultures: China and the Pacific." That exhibit featured the discoveries found in southeast China over the past century. Jiao, an expert in Chinese archaeology, holds a Ph.D and master's from Harvard University.
