Pianist to give Mamiya recital

Pianist Wendy Yamashita will give a benefit recital at 4 p.m. July 1 at the Mamiya Theatre at the Saint Louis Center for the Arts.Yamashita, a former student of veteran teacher Ernest Chang, is a University Laboratory School graduate who earned her bachelor's and master's degree in music from the famed Juilliard School where she studied with legendary artist Adele Marcus, who also was Chang's teacher.
The event — sponsored by the Ernest Chang Piano Studio, the Manoa Waioli Lions Club and the University Laboratory School Alumni Association — will be a fundraiser for the University Lab School Alumni Association Fire Fund, to help restore the facilities destroyed in a school campus fire on June 13, 2006. Among the buildings destroyed was the multi-purpose room, which housed, among other programs, the music department, where Yamashita played violin in the string orchestra.
The program will include works by Scarlatti, Ravel, Chopin and Mussorgsky.
Tickets: $20 ($12 seniors and students).
