A 25-year-old woman was indicted by the O'ahu grand jury this morning on a charge of murdering her mother at her Halawa Heights home last week.

Carol Weidman was charged with second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life term with the possibility of parole. She's accused of killing her 55-year-old mother, Lisa Weidman, who died of manual strangulation and stab wounds after she was found bleeding late May 30 at her Pa'ihi Street home.

Circuit Judge Derrick Chan increased Carol Weidman's bail from $50,000 to $100,000 at the request of city Deputy Prosecutor Rom Trader.

Carol Weidman remains at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center unable to post bail.

Trader said Carol Weidman does not have a criminal record as far as his office knows, but based on a preliminary investigation, she may be suffering from undiagnosed mental health issues.

The deputy prosecutor said if Carol Weidman is released on bail, she may pose a danger to herself or others.

The indictment sends the case to trial.

Weidman will be arraigned later this month, at which time she is expected to plead not guilty and receive a trial date.
