QUICK BITES
Plate lunches for under a buck

Advertiser Staff

To commemorate its 1976 launch, L&L Drive-Inn has a deal for you: On June 27, the plate-lunch purveyors' Keeaumoku Wal-Mart location will serve plate lunches for 76 cents, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Regular-size plates of chicken katsu, hamburger steak and kaua pork with cabbage are included in the promotions, and you can get a 10-cent soda to wash them down. In addition, the first 100 customers in line will get a free L&L T-shirt. L&L, which has won numerous Advertiser Ilima awards for Best Plate Lunch, now operates on the Mainland, as well as under its Hawaiian Barbecue brand. The company now has more than 170 restaurants nationwide.

WHAT'S NEW

DUO OPENS AT FOUR SEASONS WAILEA

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has opened Duo. The premium steak and seafood restaurant features the creations of chef Noel Badillo and is under the management of Barry Chu, both from Hawaii. Duo joins Ferraro's Bar e Ristorante and Spago Maui on the Four Seasons property.

Badillo grew up on Lana'i, where he loved to cook for family and friends, making up dishes as they came to him. He's been with the Four Seasons Resort Maui for 15 years.

Chu grew up in this business. His parents are food and beverage managers at luxury hotels; he says he was inspired by Sam Choy, learning to cook as a boy and starting on the bottom rung as a busboy in a Honolulu restaurant.
