WAI'ANAE
'Grenade' found in front of store

Advertiser Staff

Police in Wai'anae called in military ordnance disposal technicians to remove a 4 1/2-inch projectile yesterday afternoon that appeared to be the kind used in an automatic grenade launcher.

The object, which police described as more of a large bullet than a typical hand grenade — was found in front of the Wai'anae Store, at 85-863 Farrington Highway.

Police said the projectile was found intact in its casing, meaning it had not been "launched," but could have been dropped or thrown onto the property.

Police cordoned off the area where the projectile was found, but the store remained open for business during the removal process.
