Junior lifeguard program holding signups

Boys and girls, ages 13-17, interested in taking a five-day course that will familiarize them with basic ocean and safety skills, can sign up for the Junior Lifeguard Program Saturday in Wai'anae and Waimanalo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The signup sites are Hale Nalu Surf and Bike, 85-876 Farrington Highway, in Wai'anae and Waimanalo Elementary School, 41-1330 Kalaniana'ole Highway. The course program covers an introduction to ocxean hazard identification and prevention; ocean and surf rescue techniques; emergency first aid, and cardiopulmonary rususcitation training.

The program emphasizes general fitness, ocean swimming, paddle boarding, and lifesaving skills. Program sponsors are Quicksilver, Billabong, Xcel and Dakine.
