Costco Wholesale Corp., the U.S. warehouse club, said May sales at stores open at least a year rose 7 percent from May 2006, more than analysts had estimated.

Costco is the largest operator of the discount warehouse stores in Hawai'i.

Revenue increased 11 percent to $5.14 billion in the four weeks through June 3, from $4.63 billion a year earlier, the Issaquah, Washington-based company said today in a statement.

Sales at outlets open at least a year climbed 7 percent in both the U.S. and international divisions.

Analysts had estimated May same-store sales would increase 5.7 percent, according to data compiled by Retail Metrics LLC, a research firm based in Swampscott, Massachusetts.
