Damage limited in brushfire on Big Island

Firefighters on the Big Island were able to control a brushfire that apparently started in pasture land and spread into a thickly wooded area yesterday afternoon, bringing it under control and limiting the damage to an estimated $575.

Twenty-one firefighters responded to the call shortly before noon and fought the flames for more than four hours before bringing it under control. Three acres were involved in the fire, which was located on Highway 11 in the Ka'u distritct. A water tanker, private dozer and a brush truck were used as well as three engines, one tanker and one medical unit.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.

No cause of the fire has been released.
