BUSINESS BRIEFS
Kona Deep has a movie credit

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Kona Deep isn't all that old, but the Hawai'i-produced drinking water already is making a splash with a movie credit to its name. The water makes a cameo appearance in the new "Oceans Thirteen" movie, according to the bottled water company.

It also was featured at the movie premiere "after party" for "Oceans Thirteen," the company said.

The premium bottled water is made from desalinated seawater pumped from the ocean off the Big Island.

MINORITY STAKE IN 23 ROY'S SOLD

A public company with some 1,400 restaurants including more than 20 Roy's outside Hawai'i has agreed to a buyout offer from an investor group.

Florida-based OSI Restaurant Partners Inc. announced the $3.2 billion purchase from a group led by Bain Capital Partners LLC and Catterton Management Co. LLC.

OSI operates several restaurant brands, including Outback Steakhouse and Cheeseburger in Paradise. The company at the end of last year had a minority interest in 23 Roy's outside Hawai'i through a partnership with Roy Yamaguchi.

OSI does not have an ownership interest in the seven Roy's restaurants in Hawai'i, two in Japan, one in Guam and two on the Mainland.

STUDY QUANTIFIES IMPACT OF ARTS

The non-profit arts industry on Maui generates an estimated $22.2 million of spending, according to a new study that attempts to quantify the economic impact of the arts and culture industry.

The study, Arts & Economic Prosperity III, looked at 156 U.S. communities.

The study by Americans for the Arts found that nationwide the industry produces $166.2 billion in activity each year.

Maui was the only community surveyed in Hawai'i. Its spending total included $11.6 million of organizational spending and $10.6 million of audience spending.
