MA'ALAEA
Expect highway traffic delays

Advertiser Staff

Commuters on Honoapi'ilani Highway can expect traffic delays from 8:30 to 11 a.m. today as work continues on a rockfall-mitigation project.

A helicopter will be draping ring-nets onto the hillside above the pali tunnel, and workers on the ground will be installing fencing, according to the Department of Transportation. Both lanes of the highway will be closed for periods of approximately five minutes while workers anchor the fence posts for the nets in place.

The $3 million emergency project was launched to remove chunks of the steep mountainside that were cracked and loosened by the Oct. 15 earthquakes.
