WAIKIKI
Memorial for beachboy today

Advertiser Staff

A memorial service for Waikiki beachboy Robert "Bobby" Ah Choy will be held at 10 a.m. today at Kuhio Beach.

Ah Choy died of cancer May 21 at the age of 66.

It was just two weeks earlier that Ah Choy steered an escort canoe of beachboy legends out to the site where entertainer Don Ho's ashes were scattered off Waikiki.

Ah Choy had been a beachboy in Waikiki for 50 years, earning respect as a skilled surfer and canoe steersman.

He and his brother, Leroy, have been credited with carrying on the tradition of paddle surfing, which helped lead to its surge in popularity around the world.
