The DOT's Designated Driver or "D2" Campaign is a promotional partnership between the state, local radio stations and nighttime establishments frequented by young adults in an effort to promote the "Don't Drink and Drive" message. This annual summer campaign runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

In 2006, there were 161 traffic fatalities in Hawai'i; 76 of them were alcohol-related and 77 involved speeding.
