Kimberly Kim misses LPGA cut by two strokes

Advertiser Staff

Kimberly Kim, a 15-year-old former Big Island resident, shot a 4-over-par 76 today and missed the cut by two strokes at the LPGA Championship at Havre de Grace, Md.

Kim, who shot 1-over 73 yesterday, had four bogeys on the front nine and made the turn at 40. She had two birdies and two bogeys to close with a 36.

Her two-round total of 149 put her in a tie for 93rd. The top 70s and ties at 147 made the cut, which included 17-year-old Punahou graduate Michelle Wie.

Kim, the field's lone amateur who moved to Arizona to enhance her golf career, earned her way into the LPGA's second major by becoming the youngest U.S. Women's Amateur champion in history last year.

She was also the youngest ever to make the U.S. Women's Open cut in 2006 and is coming off victories in the prestigious ReBath Heather Farr Classic and Thunderbird International Junior.

Kim will return to the U.S. Women's Open later this month by virtue of her U.S. Amateur title.
