Former UH pitcher Davis taken by Padres in 21st round

University of Hawai'i pitcher Tyler Davis was the 657th player selected overall by the San Diego Padres in the MLB's first-year player draft today.

Five players with Hawai'i ties have been taken so far in today's MLB first-year player draft.

University of Hawai'i pitcher Tyler Davis was taken in the 21st round by the San Diego Padres. He was the 657th player selected overall.

Davis, who turns 22 on Aug. 15, completed his eligibility with UH as the team's closer. He was 6-2 with four saves and a 4.06 earned run average.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound side-arm right-hander came to UH from Santa Barbara Junior College.
