Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i third baseman Justin Frash was picked in the 27th round by the Oakland Athletics in the MLB first-year player draft. He was the 840th overall pick.

Frash, 23, completed eligibility with the Rainbows by batting .346 with 19 doubles, three triples and three home runs with 35 RBI. The left-handed hitting third baseman is the only Rainbow to draw more walks (48) and strike out (28). He transferred to UH from Oxnard (Calif.) JC.

His father, Roger Frash, was a first-round pick by the New York Mets in 1980 of the January regular phase of the draft.
