Where's the justice?

StoryChat: Comment on this story

One could only hope that after hotel heiress Paris Hilton was put on probation for drunken driving that a lesson could be learned.

When she violated that probation, onlookers hoped again that her ordered jail sentence of 45 days would be just the eye-opener she needed to get her act together. After all, she is in the public eye. However inexplicable her fame is, she does have some degree of social responsibility as a — ahem — role model.

Then when that sentence was drastically reduced to "at least 23 days," well, we remained steadfast in our hope that her reckless days would give way to a tamer, more responsible Paris Hilton.

But after three days behind bars, the paparazzi darling has been released and allowed to spend the remaining 40 days of her original sentence in her Hollywood Hills home. Talk about celebrity justice.

Pardon the cynicism.

But in terms the socialite can understand: That's so not hot.
