Kaua'i cracking down on prohibited landfill materials

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E — Kaua'i County officials announced that they will be enforcing sections of the County Code which prohibits business, industrial, and other non-residential sources from dumping cardboard, metal and green waste at the county landfill.

Landfill workers have begun screening waste materials and will begin issuing fines July 16 to haulers who are found with the prohibited items.

Businesses that generate cardboard, metal and green waste are being urged to establish recycling programs for the materials.

For more information on recycling requirements and opportunities, call the County Recycling office at (808) 241-6891.
