A visitor from Oklahoma was killed today and five people injured in a head-on collision on Pi'ilani Highway near Alanui Ke Ali'i Street.

Maui traffic investigators identified the person killed as Jerry Killough, 68, of Oklahoma.

The collision occurred at 4:52 p.m.

Killough was driving a Ford sedan toward Makena when a Nissan pickup truck headed in the opposite direction toward Ma'alaea crossed the center line, striking the sedan head-on.

Three people in the sedan were taken to Maui Memorial with non-critical injuries, police said. A woman passenger, 20, in the pickup truck also suffered non-lifethreatening injuries and was taken to Maui Memorial.

A 4-month-old infant in the pickup truck suffered critical injuries and was medevaced to Honolulu. The child was in a car seat and not thrown from the truck, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old Wailuku man, escaped serious injury.

The death is Maui's 11th traffic fatality of the year and seventh in the last 37 days.
