Two men were arrested today in front of an Alohiki Street home in Wai'anae on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with an early-morning shooting at nearly Pilila'au Park.

Police said a man, 24, was shot in the stomach at about 4:30 a.m. by a gunman in a Lincoln Navigator. The wounded man drove himself to the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Heath Center and was later taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was reported to be in guarded condition.

According to police, the two men arrested were involved in an argument with another group of men at the park, 85-166 Plantation Road.

The suspected gunman, 21, allegedly fired several shots into the air on two separate occasions during the argument, police said. The opposing group responded by throwing bottles at the sport utility vehicle. The gunman allegedly stood on its running board nd fired at the group from about 60 feet away, with one shot wounding the victim.

The SUV was driven away but was found at about 5 a.m. Police arrested a man, 25, whom they said was driving the Navigator with the suspected gunman inside.
