B.I. stabbing leaves boy dead, woman injured

A teen-age boy died today and a 34-year-old woman was in guarded condition after they were stabbed in an Ainaloa home in the Big Island's Puna District, police said.

Hilo police said they arrested 38-year-old Tyrone Vesperas. He was in custody at the Hilo police cellblock but was not charged, police said.

Puna patrol officers responded to a 911 call around 11:30 a.m. The woman was taken to Hilo Medical Center in guarded condition and the boy was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m.

The names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of family members.
