Halawa woman pleads not guilty in mother's killing

Advertiser Staff

A 25-year-old woman pleaded not guilty this morning to a charge of murdering her mother at their Halawa Heights home last month.

Carol K. Weidman is accused of second-degree murder in what the city medical examiner's office said was the strangulation and stabbing of Lisa Weidman, 55, also known as Lisa Wu, at her Pa'ihi Street home the night of May 30.

Carol Weidman's trial was set for the week of Aug. 13.

If convicted of the murder charge, Weidman would face a mandatory life term with possibility of parole.

City prosecutors earlier said Carol Weidman may be suffering from "undiagnosed mental health issues."

Carol Weidman is being held on $100,000 bail.
