Man charged in shooting after graduation party

Advertiser Staff

A man who allegedly fired shots into a crowd, hitting a man in the stomach during a melee in a park after a graduation party over the weekend, was charged today, police said.

Joshua T. Gualdarama was charged with first-degree criminal property damage, possession of a loaded weapon, first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree assault.

Gualdarama and another man were arrested early Sunday in front of an Alohiki Street home in Wai'anae on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with an early-morning shooting at nearby Pilila'au Park.

Police said a 24-year-old man was shot in the stomach about 4:30 a.m. by a gunman in a Lincoln Navigator. The wounded man drove himself to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Heath Center and was later taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was reported in guarded condition.

According to police, the two men who were arrested were involved in an argument with another group of men at the park following a graduation party on Plantation Road.

Gualdarama, 21, allegedly fired several shots into the air on two occasions during the argument, police said. People in the other group responded by throwing bottles at the sport utility vehicle. A gunman allegedly stood on its running board and fired at the group from about 60 feet away, with one shot wounding the victim, police said.

The SUV drove away but was found about 5 a.m. Police also arrested a 25-year-old man, who they said was driving the Navigator with Gualdarama inside.
