Amescua places ninth in track meet after runners fall

Baldwin High School's Joey Amescua finished in ninth place in the boys 800-meter run at the Golden West Invitational on Sunday in Sacramento, Calif.

Amescua, the state 800 champion, finished in a time of 2:00.60. On the last lap, several runners fell in front of him. Amescua avoided the group, but lost his rhythm.

Amescua, who will be a senior in the fall, ran a personal best 1:53.64 at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational on April 7.

Joseph Franklin of Florida's Godby High School won in 1:51.30.
