TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Jim Gaffigan: Beyond the Pale," 7 p.m., Comedy Central. A few people can take snippets of ordinary life and turn them into brilliant comedy. Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano and Brian Regan are like that. So is Jim Gaffigan, whose special reruns tonight. Gaffigan once starred in his own CBS series ("Welcome to New York"). He has a supporting role in TBS' "My Boys," which returns next month. Still, he's at his best doing standup. Gaffigan grew up in Indiana and gives his observations — about food and pale skin and such — a droll, Midwestern touch.

"America's Got Talent," 7 p.m., NBC. The second week begins for this all-purpose talent show. Tonight, the judges — Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff — and host Jerry Springer are in Los Angeles for auditions.

OF NOTE

"On the Lot," 7 p.m., Fox. Don't look for the comedy "The Loop" tonight. It was originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m., but has been moved to Sundays.

"Bad Girls Road Trip" debut, 7 p.m., Oxygen. Let's credit this reality show for honesty, anyway. We see some hype in Nashville, because women from "The Bad Girls Club" — described as Oxygen's highest-rated series — are in town for a casting call. The women (Leslie, Aimee and Zara) enthuse about meeting their fans. Then ... well, pretty much no one shows up. It's kind of interesting that way.

"Fight Girls" series debut, 7:30 p.m., Oxygen. We meet 10 women, ready to study Thai boxing — a tough event that includes kicks — from a champion, Master Toddy. Each week he'll have two of them square off, with the winner getting a bout in Thailand. This opener works well, because the two contestants have interesting, opposite personalities.

"Nova: Jewel of the Earth," 8 p.m., PBS. When David Attenborough was young, he was given an amber stone. What he didn't realize was that the bugs encased in it are artifacts, trapped there 40 million years ago. This beautifully filmed rerun shows amber's ability to encase the past.

"The Unit," 8 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, a Silver Star is finally awarded to Jonas' dad, for his heroism in Korea.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. In a rerun, Wilson confronts House, who stole his prescription pad and forged his signature.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. This reruns the episode that gave an early look at Adam Beach, who will be a regular next season. He plays a Brooklyn cop, an American Indian who teams with Fin to see whether two rapes are related.
