The Kaua'i County Council has thrown its support behind efforts to discourage coastal property owners from artificially encouraging vegetation growth on public beaches.

In a resolution, the council said that such activities result in "carpeting the shoreline with unnaturally occurring vegetation, reducing beach width and squeezing or eliminating corridors of access which deprive the residents of Kaua'i of the precious natural resource of the beaches."

It urges the state Department of Land and Natural Resources to survey and mark the landward extent of public beaches so artificially induced plants can be removed.
