The fire was reported at 5:35 p.m. on the makai side of the freeway, east of Palehua Road. It burned an estimated 1 1/2 acres and was brought under control at 7:21, said fire Capt. Robert Main.

WAIKIKI BEATING LEADS TO 2 ARRESTS

Two boys, ages 14 and 16, were being held by police yesterday on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder after a 40-year-old man was beaten unconscious in front of the Waikiki Trade Center about 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

Witnesses told police the two boys were arguing with the man before the alleged assault began. The victim hit his head after falling to the sidewalk, police said.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said city paramedics were called to the scene at 4:36 a.m. and took the injured man to The Queen's Medical Center.

An update on his condition was not available last night.

Police did not say what triggered the altercation.
