Manoa Cup field set for first round

Edward Stenftenagel shot a 4-under-par 67 at Oahu Country Club yesterday to lead the qualifying for the 99th Manoa Cup.
Stenftenagel, the second seed, will face No. 63 Peter Olson in today's first round of the state amateur match-play championship, which starts at 7 a.m.
Doug Williams, who shot a 68 to earn the third seed, will play No. 62 Tom Goodbody.
Defending champion Jonathan Ota, the No. 1 seed, shot a 69 yesterday. He will meet No. 64 James Kawaihalau.

EX-BEACHBOY GETS CALL
Outfielder Nate Schierholtz, who played for the Waikiki BeachBoys of Hawaii Winter Baseball last season, was called up by the San Francisco Giants yesterday.
Schierholtz entered last night's game against Toronto in the top of the ninth inning as a defensive replacement for Barry Bonds.
The 23-year-old Reno, Nev. native played for San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate, the Fresno Grizzlies.
In 58 games with Fresno, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Schierholtz batted .347 with 20 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 33 RBIs. He also stole five bases and scored 36 runs.
Schierholtz batted .248 with 16 RBIs as a BeachBoy last season. He had five doubles, three triples and three homers.

ARCENEAUX TO CFL
Wide receiver Anthony Arceneaux, a former Saint Louis School standout, has signed a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, according to a release by Ikei Performance training.
Arceneaux, who is 5 feet 10 and 180 pounds, played for the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League last year.
Arceneaux will join former Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang, who played with Arceneaux in high school, in the Hamilton camp.
The Tiger-Cats are scheduled to play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Thursday in a preseason game.
BENTO HONORED
Former Saint Louis School placekicker Ha'aheo Bento was named the United Indoor Football League Special Teams Player of the Week June 6.
Bento, who plays for the Billings Outlaws, converted 10-of-10 extra points and kicked a 30-yard field goal.
Former University of Hawai'i running back Michael Brewster also plays for Billings.
